Women’s Hormones

For this month's update, we would like to discuss female hormones. The two main female hormones are Estrogen and Progesterone. These hormones influence puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. Estrogen and Progesterone work in harmony to regulate menstrual cycles, support pregnancy, and begin to decline during perimenopause. When these hormones become imbalanced they can cause physical symptoms such as irregular or heavy periods, mood changes, cravings, acne, weight gain, hair loss, headaches or migraines, and hot flashes. Some of the common causes of hormonal imbalance include environmental toxins/endocrine disruptors, physical and emotional stress, medications including oral contraceptives, micro- and macro-nutrient imbalances, and metabolic disease.

Here are some ways to balance hormones

Clean Up Your Lifestyle

Avoid plastics, evaluate ingredients in topical skin care products, avoid the EWG's Dirty Dozen, purchase organic foods when possible, drink filtered water, and support detox pathways through the diet and supplemental nutrients.

Balance stress

Avoiding over and under exercising, get adequate and restful sleep, consider daily meditation, spend time in nature and with loved ones, and seek out professional help when you need it.

IV Therapy

Common nutrients necessary for how we metabolized and utilized hormones include Magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamin D. When a woman lacks these nutrients during her reproductive years symptoms of PMS become apparent. Our new PMS IV contains Magnesium, vitamin B6 and electrolytes to restore hormone balance and resolve common PMS symptoms. Vitamin B6 is also important for adrenal gland function and the production of adrenal hormones, which is also important for balancing hormones and addressing the whole person.

Know Your Medications

If on medications, speak with your healthcare provider about medication side effects, nutrient depletion, and how to support your body while on the medication.

Eat a Nutrient-Dense Diet

Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, consume adequate amounts of protein, incorporate good sources of fats and drink sufficient amounts of water daily. Dr. Langston and Dr. Mor are now offering nutrition consultations to help you reach your micro- and macro- nutrient needs. Contact our office for more information and pricing.

As always, the Doctors at Pathways to Natural Health address hormone imbalances by first identifying the hormones at play and then give the patient the tools to create a foundation of health to effectively shift hormones into balance and eliminate physical symptoms.
